Flitto Highlights: AWS Summit Seoul 2023
Flitto CTO Kang dong-han delivers a keynote on the importance of flexible architecture and community activities, coming from a decade of experience

The AWS Summit Seoul 2023 (hereinafter “AWS Summit”) was held over the course of two days on May 3 and 4 at the COEX Convention Center.
This highly anticipated event is the largest IT conference in Korea, providing visitors and participants with an opportunity to learn about the latest cloud technology and experience advanced tech demonstrations in real time. The event attracts a wide range of participants, including enthusiasts, experts, developers, and business leaders, who come together to discuss, collaborate, and learn about the latest technology trends.
This year’s AWS Summit has garnered particularly fervent interest among stakeholders, as it marked the first offline Summit in three years since the pandemic.
Flitto’s Chief Technology Officer, Kang Dong-han, delivered a keynote speech on May 4, the second day of the Summit. CTO Kang was joined by Holly Mesrobian, Vice President of AWS Serverless Compute at Amazon, Seokchan “Channy” Yun, Principal Developer Advocate at Amazon Web Services, and Juyoung Song, Research Fellow and DevOps Acceleration Lead at LG U+.
Since 2012, Flitto has specialized in generating and supplying language data, a crucial element for AI development. It is no surprise that Flitto has been receiving increasing attention in recent months, along with rising demand for personalized and scalable artificial intelligence data amplified by the generative AI craze brought about by ChatGPT.
Not long ago, Flitto’s platform achieved new feats in its collection of language data for AI training, having surpassed hundreds of millions of units across text, speech, and image data in just one month. This is a massive amount of data that requires expertise to handle.
During his keynote speech, Flitto CTO Kang Dong-han, responded to public curiosity about how Flitto’s service was able to handle such massive data. He shared his expertise from 10 years of patronage with AWS, along with an introduction to Flitto’s business and services.
As the business model of Flitto is based on various languages worldwide, its services inherently cater to a global audience. CTO Kang highlighted that it is highly improbable for early-stage startups to build a global service using on-premise servers instead of cloud servers. This is not only because of globalization but also due to the difficulty in guaranteeing that the business will grow according to the projected speed and scale. To save initial investment costs and manage resources, he emphasized the importance of starting small and gradually scaling up.
In addition, CTO Kang shared his insights on various matters, including security, his favorite AWS services, and organizational management, based on his vast experiences in each area. He particularly highlighted the significance of community activities among developers. Many of the open-source projects that developers can use today are a result of community activities. CTO Kang noted that he continues to encourage his teams to participate in such public activities. He has contributed to a number of big and small projects on platforms such as node.js, and mentioned that Flitto’s developer team manages several source codes by making them public on GitHub.
The AWS Summit Seoul 2023 was an effective channel for technology enthusiasts and experts to explore current advancements in the field of IT. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, making it a pleasure to attend.
Going forward, Flitto will continue to actively participate in various events to share our unique know-how and insights. Please stay tuned for updates on Flitto’s upcoming activities.
